About
Join us at Haw Branch Farm in Amelia County on October 15 for an afternoon focused on small ruminant pasture and parasite management in partnership with the Piedmont Soil and Water Conservation District.
Participants will learn about the parasite lifecycle and how rotational grazing can be used to reduce parasite pressure in sheep and goat operations. The program will feature hands-on animal evaluation methods, including body condition scoring, FAMACHA scoring, and other practical assessment tools producers can use to monitor and improve flock health.
Attendees will also have the opportunity to tour an established rotational grazing system and learn from the Piedmont Soil and Water Conservation District about conservation practices that support soil health, pasture productivity, and overall farm profitability. The program will conclude with dinner and discussion about Piedmont Soil and Water Conservation District cost share opportunities and networking with fellow producers and industry professionals.
Whether you're a longtime producer or just getting started with sheep and goats, this program will provide practical tools, management strategies, and cost share opportunities that can be put to work on your operation.
This program is FREE to attend, but registration is required by Sunday, October 11th for dinner. Please contact Mackenzie Gunn, Amelia County ANR Agent at 804-561-2481 or mgunn@vt.edu with questions.
