About
Youth Mental Health First Aid (YMHFA) teaches participants how to recognize signs that a youth may be developing a mental health or substance use challenge and how to offer initial support. Participants also learn how to encourage and connect youth to appropriate professional care when needed.
This evidence‑based training introduces the ALGEE Action Plan, which helps participants learn how to:
- Assess for risk of suicide or harm
- Listen without judgment
- Give reassurance and information
- Encourage professional help
- Encourage self‑help and other support strategies
Who Should Attend
This training is open to anyone who wants to better support youth mental health, including:
- Parents, caregivers, and family members
- Teachers, school staff, and youth‑serving professionals
- First responders, veterans, and community leaders
- Coaches, mentors, volunteers, and caring community members
No prior mental health training or professional background is required.
Registration Requirements
- Advanced registration is required
- Participants must complete 2.5 hours of self‑paced online training at least 72 hours before the course date
