Question, Persuade, and Refer (QPR)

Question, Persuade, and Refer (QPR) is an evidence‑based suicide prevention training that teaches participants how to recognize the warning signs of a suicide crisis and how to respond. Participants learn how to offer hope and help connect someone to lifesaving support.

Participants learn how to:

  • Question someone about suicidal thoughts in a direct, caring, and non‑judgmental way
  • Persuade them to seek help and reduce immediate risk
  • Refer them to appropriate professional and community resources

Who Should Attend

This training is open to anyone who wants to help prevent suicide and be prepared to respond in a crisis, including:

  • Family members, friends, and caregivers
  • Teachers, school staff, and youth‑ or adult‑serving professionals
  • First responders, veterans, and community leaders
  • Volunteers and caring community members

No prior mental health training or professional background is required.
