Emerging diseases are constantly changing the landscape of animal and public health. From rabies and avian influenza to drug-resistant hookworms and invasive ticks, several dangerous pathogens are spreading or evolving in ways that impact wildlife, pets, livestock, and sometimes people.

This presentation provides a timely update on rabies, avian flu, Asian longhorned ticks, drug-resistant hookworms, and Echinococcus tapeworms. Participants will learn the latest science behind these threats, how they spread, and practical ways to reduce risk. If time allows, a brief update on the screwworm—one of the most destructive parasites in veterinary history—will also be included.

Participants will:

1. Gain a better understanding of the natural history of rabies, bird flu, hookworms, Asian longhorned ticks, and Echinococcus tapeworms

2. Learn the latest news and most current science related to the above diseases and parasites

3. Learn methods to help reduce risk from these diseases and parasites
