About
Show-Me Neighborhood Art Month is a statewide, month-long celebration of public art created by Missouri residents in their neighborhoods. This outreach effort by University of Missouri Extension invites people of all ages and artistic abilities to make and display art that reflects the personality and pride of their neighborhood — right in front yards, shared spaces, community centers, or other visible locations.
Who can participate?
Open to all Missouri residents — individuals, families, neighborhoods, schools, and community groups. Whether you’re an experienced artist or have never held a paintbrush, this event is about expressing creativity and making public art that inspires curiosity and connection.
What kind of art?
Use materials you have at home to create eye-catching outdoor art. Examples include:
- Yard sculptures and installations
- Chalk murals on sidewalks or driveways
- Painted rocks, walkways, or fences
- Murals or decorative signs
- Any creative display that is viewable from the street or sidewalk
No matter the skill level, every contribution adds color and character to your neighborhood.
Registration: Participants must register their location so their installation can be included on the statewide art map. Any public art registered and showcased on the website needs to have been created between July 1, 2025 and June 1, 2026.
How it works:
- Register your project and location so it appears on the interactive map.
- Place your creative installation where it can be seen from the street or sidewalk.
- Share photos and stories on social media using #ShowMeNeighborhoodArt, #MUExtension, and #EngagedNeighbor to inspire others.
- Explore other art displays around the state — walk, bike, or drive the art trail!
- Voting takes place statewide between June 1 to June 30.
Event Guidelines:
- Art must be safely viewable from public sidewalks or streets.
- Use materials that are safe and weather-appropriate.
- No hazardous materials or offensive images.
- Do not use others’ property without permission.
- Artwork remains the responsibility of the creator.
Cost: Free to participate.
