About
Two day cattle backgrouding and finishing workshop. First day focuses on backgrounding weaned calves and the second day focuses on finishing cattle on farm. We will cover economics, risk management, nutrition and health management and tour a local small scale confinement feeding operation. Sign up for one or both days depending on your availability and interests.
COST: $100 per person per day

Every participant will receive a flash drive containing speaker presentations, useful Extension Guidesheets, and spreadsheets for financial modeling of backgrouding and finishing enterprises.

08:00 AM - 04:00 PM CST Backgrounding School
This session is designed for weaned calves prior to putting on a finishing program. Presentations will include topics such as low stress cattle handling & working facilities, backgrounding cattle nutrition & management, post weaning calf health management, financing & risk management and finding your operation's competitve advantage.

This session will have presentations on confinement feeding barns/lots, nutritional management of finishing cattle, finance and risk management, tour of a local feeding operation and a presentation from a representative of a regional packing plant.
