Cybersecurity & Technology Education for Older Adults
A Partnership of Three Rivers College, Southeast Missouri State University, and University of Missouri Extension
Three Rivers College, Southeast Missouri State University (SEMO), and University of Missouri Extension are partnering to provide accessible, practical technology education designed specifically for older adults throughout Southeast Missouri.
The initial program will focus on Cybersecurity Education for Senior Adults, helping participants build the knowledge and confidence needed to safely navigate an increasingly digital world. Southeast Missouri State University will provide cybersecurity education and expertise, while University of Missouri Extension will provide in-person facilitation and participant support, helping create a welcoming, hands-on learning environment.
Topics may include recognizing and avoiding online scams, protecting personal and financial information, creating and managing secure passwords, identifying suspicious emails and messages, safely using smartphones and social media, and understanding emerging technology-related risks.
Programming will be offered at SEMO campus locations in Cape Girardeau, Sikeston, and Kennett, Missouri, increasing access to technology education for older adults across the region.
The partnership also creates an opportunity to expand beyond cybersecurity into additional Technology for Older Adults programming based on participant and community needs. Future sessions could address topics such as smartphone and tablet basics, telehealth, online banking and shopping, video communication, social media, artificial intelligence, and other digital tools that can help older adults remain connected, informed, independent, and confident.
By combining the educational resources and expertise of Three Rivers College, Southeast Missouri State University, and University of Missouri Extension, this collaborative initiative seeks to reduce barriers to technology, strengthen digital literacy, and equip older adults with practical skills they can use in their everyday lives.
